Vestibular physiotherapy, also known as vestibular rehabilitation therapy (VRT), is a specialised form of physio aimed at addressing issues related to the vestibular system. The vestibular system functions to detect the position and movement of our head in space, which allows for the coordination of eye movements, posture and equilibrium.
People with vestibular disorders often experience problems with balance and vision as well as position or movement-related dizziness. These primary symptoms are often accompanied by secondary symptoms associated with reduced activity levels. Secondary symptoms include decreased strength, loss of range of motion, and increased tension, leading to muscle fatigue and headaches.
Our vestibular trained physiotherapists employ a comprehensive and personalised approach to assess and treat vestibular disorders, using various techniques including canalith repositioning manoeuvres, balance training exercises, gaze stabilisation exercises, and habituation exercises, to ease symptoms and improve vestibular function.
A vestibular appointment requires an initial one-hour session followed by 30-minute follow-up sessions, which may be adjusted based on the individual’s specific presentation and needs. Give us a call on (07) 3180 4677 if you would like to speak to one of our staff about booking your first session.
